21 Sep Wedding Trends to Watch for in 2019
Last month, our social feeds blew up with news that bouncy castles—yes, as in the inflatable houses usually reserved for children’s birthday parties—were making appearances are weddings in United Kingdom.
While the phenomenon has yet to hit Australian or Canadian shores (we’ve got our fingers crossed that this will change), there’s no shortage of ways to make your own wedding unique and on-trend. Here’s what wedding cake, décor, flower, hair and food trends that you can expect to see in 2019.
Step aside rose gold—a purple haze is setting in
Pantone’s Colour of the Year is generally a good indicator of what to expect at weddings. In 2017, it was “greenery” and in 2018 it was “ultra violet”. Although pastels and metallics have been popular in recent years, that’s why we think moodier shades will be the hues of choice next year.
On the topic of colour, it will also come into play as brides choose their dresses. Don’t believe us? Vera Wang’s 2019 bridal collection didn’t feature a single white dress.
Wedding favours that last forever
Favours of weddings bygone can be found at op shops nationwide. But what if you could give a favour that your guests really wanted—and one they could never give away? That may be what’s sparking the trend behind pop-up tattoo parlours at weddings. Typically, guests choose from a series of drawings designed just for the occasion, then get inked on the spot. Some artists are even exclusively working at weddings now!
Just like your love, a tattoo is forever though. So if you’re not sure your guests will be into that level of commitment, you can also order custom temporary tattoos.
“The Meghan Effect”: Minimal and more than one
We’re talking wedding dresses here. In 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials will continue to be a key source of inspiration, particularly when it comes to gowns. Think simple with clean lines, and a secondary outfit just for the reception.
Speaking of receptions, we’re also pretty excited that wedding jumpsuits are very much a “thing”, as they’re inarguably the ideal outfit for cutting loose on the dance floor. You supply the moves, we’ll supply the music.
Literal cheese cakes
That’s cheese cake—not cheesecake. Picture a tower of cheese, decorated with plums and grapes. Yes, please!
Festival-style weddings, complete with glamping villages and food trucks
We’re happy to report that bohemian weddings haven’t gone out style just yet. Best of all, these types of weddings are the perfect way to choose a one-of-a-kind location.
“Vanity Fair” styled photo backdrops
Blame it on the Royal Wedding, Beyonce’s birth announcement or Rodarte’s Winter 2018 Portrait Series. Whatever the reason, where photo booths were once the rage, Instagram’s influence means that your guests will want a scenic backdrop to take prom-style photos in front of. Pair it with a Polaroid camera for best results.
Live music on the dance floor
According to Insider, one of the top wedding trends for 2018 is “bands with personality”. It’s a trend we’re fairly confidant will continue into 2019.
Regardless of whether you’re a trendsetter or hosting a traditional reception, we can provide live music to make your event memorable. Just get in touch.
