Thinking about hosting your wedding at Hotel Pier One Sydney? With unrivalled views over the Harbour Bridge and Walsh Bay, we can’t blame you. We’ve performed here a number of times on New Year’s Eve and it’s hands-down the best seat in the house for fireworks.
Your wedding day is no different. Regardless which of the three main function spaces you choose, it’s a stunning setting – and there’s no better way to enhance the venue’s atmosphere than with live music. Overall, we suggest that you plan for about 6.5 hours of music, which will cover your ceremony and pre-dinner drinks, with roughly the last five hours dedication to your reception.
If you’re considering hiring Red Soda Band to perform at your Pier One Sydney wedding, here’s what you need to know:
Capacity: Pier One has three main function spaces for weddings, business meetings/functions and parties:
Ideal for larger weddings, the premier venue is Water @ Pier One. With 180-degree views of Sydney Harbour, this room comfortably seats up to 200 guests, including accommodating the bridal tale and a dance floor. It was fully renovated in 2012-2013.
Overlooking Walsh Bay, the Dawes Point Room opens directly onto the pier. A versatile space, it can seat up to 120 guests, including accommodating the bridal table and a dance floor. It was also fully renovated in 2012-13.
Finally, Bridge @ Pier One, which opened in 2013, is truly a room with a view. In addition to uninterrupted views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it has a custom-made transparent marquee. Expanding onto the bridge, this marquee has open walls and a clear roof, creating a unique and spectacular venue. Bridge @ Pier One comfortably holds up to 200 guests cocktail-style.
Wedding Ceremony: Ceremonies for a Pier One wedding in Sydney are typically hosted either downstairs on the pier, or upstairs in the Bridge Room. While weddings on the pier are stunning, our recommendation is to see if the Bridge Room is available; it’s sheltered and you can basically touch the Sydney Harbour Bridge (hence the name).
Following the ceremony, make sure you’ve booked a drinks and canapés package – this ensures your guests are taken care of while you’re getting photos taken. Most couples also extend the ceremony music during this time to set the mood.
Wedding Reception: Receptions at Pier One are hosted within one of the rooms outlined above. Dependent on the number of guests, there are multiple locations that our band can set up in this venue. We’re happy to make recommendations based on our past experiences playing at this venue.
Want to check out the venue? Honestly, out of every “Sydney CBD” wedding venue that we work at, this is one of the easiest venues to find, park and access.
If you’re considering a Pier One wedding, drive up Hickson Road towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Pier One is almost directly under the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the Sydney Theatre side of Walsh Bay (not The Rocks side). This Sydney wedding venue looks across the water towards Luna Park, not the Opera House.
There is plenty of metered street parking on weekends and two underground parking stations within a 10-minute walk of the venue. You will pay a lot more for parking before 6pm on weekdays.
To enter the venue just walk towards the Harbour Bridge – it’s the last building before you get to the bridge. Enter either through the main lobby (under the last overhead bridge before the Sydney Harbour bridge for access to Dawes Point of Bridge Rooms) or keep walking towards the water. There, you’ll find big glass door on your left, which provide access to the main function room, Water @ Pier One.
